Fred "Blue Moon" Johnson, the legendary "Mr. Blue Moon Bass Man," is perhaps the most imitated voice in Rock 'n' Roll history.  After all haven't we all tried to imitate his familiar "Bom-ba-ba-bom-fa-dang-a-dang-dang-a-ding-a-dong-ding" lyric, which still booms from radios all over the world?  It has been nearly 45 years since founder Fred Johnson and his group, The Marcels, won their coveted place in music history thanks to that nonsensical group of bass syllables.

The smashing success of "Blue Moon" and "Heartaches" were in fact accidental.  "Blue Moon" may never have happened if Stu Phillips, Colpix Records Music Director, was not convinced that Fred's bass gimmick was the stuff hit records are made of.  Stu clandestinely arranged the now legendary late-night recording sessions with this group of unknowns from Pittsburgh, in spite of his boss's order to concentrate exclusively on another artist the label was grooming for stardom.  When Stu decided to apply Fred's gimmick to an old standard rather than to The Cadillacs' "Zoom" to which it was originally applied, The Marcels went from unknown status to being one of the most celebrated groups of all time.

In April of 1961 "Blue Moon" didn't just skyrocket up pop and R&B charts worldwide, it knocked Elvis Presley out of the #1 spot securing Colpix Records its first gold record, and it sparked a resurrection of the Doo Wop sound.  Fred's signature sound has even inspired new records, which pay homage to the bass man.  Fred was recognized for these accomplishments with his induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

It is not surprising that all these years later Fred continues to be in constant demand at major entertainment venues around the world.  "America's Bass Man" has shaken the walls at The Apollo, The Howard, The Royal Theaters, Madison Square Garden, The Greek Theater, Nassau Coliseum, Radio City Music Hall and many others.  Fred has sung The National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers, appeared on "Doo Wop 50," the first of PBS's popular nationally televised reunions of Rock 'n' Roll pioneers, and has recently appeared with such greats as The Vogues, Eddie Holman, Mary Wilson and many more.

Although Fred still performs only by request with The Marcels, his main performance emphasis centers around his newest stage show "Fred Johnson's Blue Moon Tour," featuring his hits, "Goodbye to Love," "My Love for You," "Heartaches," "Blue Moon" and more.  Fred proves what audiences have known for a long time: his talents go far beyond writing and singing bass gimmicks.

Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy Fred's performances, so accept no substitute!  If you want to hear the man that put Bomp in the Bomp-sha-bomp-sha-bomp, then you need to see Fred "Blue Moon" Johnson.
